International Women’s Day – Time to celebrate...

International Women’s Day earlier known as “International Working Women’s Day” has been observed on 08th March every year. This is the time to thank Woman and it’s the celebration for their Social, Economic and Political achievements.

It’s really surprising if we look back the history of this day formation. The founding of this day was not a happy occasion to recall. It was the outcome of Women’s consistent struggle to earn the equal recognition. In early 19th century, Women working in factories were protesting for their rights, social security and better working conditions. Those days, the last Sunday of February was observed as International Women’s Day. In 1908, Women marched through New York City on 08th March, demanding better pay package, less working hours, and end of child labour. In 1914, International Women’s Day was held on 08th March as it was a Sunday. From thereon, 08th March has been observed as International Women’s Day. It was the outcome of Women’s consistent struggle to earn the equal recognition. Every year, on 08th March, thousands of events are held throughout the year to inspire Women and celebrate their achievements. The 2000 era has seen significant change on the society’s thoughts on Women. However, great improvements still need to be made.

“The origin of a child is a mother, a Woman…she shows a man what is caring, sharing and loving is all about” said Sushmita Sen, India’s first Miss Universe. How beautiful words it is. Women has various faces, caring wife, mother, daughter or sister, all the roles fits the women so naturally that she forgets to live it up for herself. She has countless sacrifices throughout her life. In-spite of continuous exploitation and injustice against Women in both domestic and work environment even today, she achieved several milestones in education, career advancement, and better economic conditions and so on.

We all together, make this Women’s Day to upgrade the rights of the Woman across the world. We shouldn’t stop just greeting them in this day, but help them to come up in all aspects wherever they aspire.

Happy International Women’s Day ! ! !

  19. And they call us the weaker sex...No way !! I like this dedication to working women. I was one for over 30 years. The housewife is the real working woman too. Gee she does it all. I worked as an electrician in skilled trades, then came home and cooked and did the laundry. Blessings to you, susie
