Why we should not turn on the AC as soon as getting into the car?

We do have the habit of turning ON the Air Conditioning as soon as we get into the car, but we should not do this. We need to open the windows after entering the car and turn ON the air-conditioning after a couple of minutes.

According to a research done, the car dashboard, sofa, air freshener emits Benzene, a Cancer causing toxin (Carcinogen – Responsible for the heated plastic smell in the car).

In addition to causing cancer, it poisons your bones, causes anemia, and reduces white blood cells. Prolonged exposure will cause Leukemia, increasing the risk of cancer. It may also cause miscarriage.

Acceptable Benzene level indoors is 50 mg per sq. ft. A car parked indoors with the windows closed will contain 400-800 mg of Benzene. If parked outdoors under the sun at a temperature above 60 degrees F, the Benzene level goes up to 2000-4000 mg, 40 times the acceptable level and the people inside the car will inevitably inhale an excess amount of the toxins.

It is recommended that you open the windows and door to give time for the interior to air out before you enter. Remember, Benzene is a toxin that affects your kidney and liver, and is very difficult for your body to expel this toxic stuff.

Please take a note of the above points to protect yourself and your loved ones.

I've always just cranked the a/c, mostly b/c it just doesn't seem to really help to open the doors and windows first. And my drivers side window is a bit iffy about going back up so I try not to use it that often. Of course I'm in MA so the only thing I'm cranking in my car right now is the heat and defroster.

Well, that's something I didn't know. Thanks for telling us. I'll take your advice and open the windows, first.

I turn on the air and open the windows at tbe same time. A lot of people seem to have a major problem with this, but it is my car. Just venting.

Thanks for your words of wisdom.

I do usually leave my door open for a while before I enter in the summer. And roll windows down when I first turn on the A/C to blow the hot out. But since I smoke two packs a day, benzene in my car is the least of my worries.

Thanks for this. I had no idea. I immediately thought of the time I turned on the air and a bug flew in my eye. Your reasons are better. Thanks for stopping by.

Good advice. I never thought of this before, but living in Florida, I always roll all the windows down to let out the hot air and turn on the a/c because it cools the car down faster.

I am a windows down person so even if it is stinking bloody hot and I have the a/c going I do like to have the windows down for a few minutes first I think it often helps the car to cool down faster
